The president of Geroa Bai acknowledges that the differences in linguistic matters between the parties that will reissue the Government of Navarra “are evident”, but maintains that the presence of the nationalist coalition in the Government “will guarantee” to continue working on policies to support the Basque language.
“A difficult and rocky agreement in the negotiations that will give Navarra four more years of progressive and plural government. There are already three legislatures that we are facing on this path.” This is how the president of Geroa Bai, Uxue Barkos, pronounced the day after the agreement reached between the PSN, Geroa Bai and Contigo Navarra to reissue the government agreement of the last legislature.
The agreement reached activates the parliamentary procedures for the investiture of the socialist María Chivite before August 28. At 11:00 today, the three formations will meet again to close and sign the pact, and immediately afterwards they will report the details of the agreement to the media. “The last nuances and fringes are missing, nothing more,” Barkos clarified, in an interview on Radio Euskadi.
Geroa Bai’s yes comes after weeks of negotiations, which already started from the disagreement with the PSN regarding the distribution of councils of the future Government. After several counterproposals on both sides, the organization chart of the last legislature was finally repeated, with the presidency and eight socialist departments, four from Geroa Bai and one for Contigo Navarra. The initial proposal of the PSN raised a cut in powers that Geroa Bai has not accepted at any time.
