The eight countries that share Amazonian territory are preparing a first joint document that they will take to COP-28, the UN Conference on Climate Change, held in the United Arab Emirates in November.
The Brazil Summit highlights the idea that saving the Amazon is saving the planet, but leaves the issue of oil extraction out of the question.
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela seek to establish common ground in the Amazon in discussions on the climate crisis.
Its leaders will review the Amazon Cooperation Treaty signed in Brasilia in 1978, which provides for joint action for the protection of forests and economic development.
