A 30-year-old mountaineer from Navarra, Ainara Marizkurrena Sagaseta, died yesterday after suffering an accident in the Huesca Pyrenees, as reported by the Huesca Civil Guard in a note.
According to sources, the fatal accident took place yesterday, around 11:00 am, at Pico Montferrat, located in the municipality of Torla. Her partner, who was with her at the time of the accident, was the one who notified the emergency services, without providing further information.
The Boltaña Special Mountain Intervention Rescue Groups (GREIM), the Air Unit based in Benasque and the 061 health group were immediately activated. At first, and after flying over the indicated area, they did not find anyone asking for help . Afterwards, they descended to the summit of the Grand Tapou Peak, where some mountaineers indicated the exact place of the incident. The aircraft located the woman’s body at the base of the wall, some 400 meters down. The woman, a neighbor of Santesteban, suffered “incompatible with life injuries,” according to the information.
The lifeless body of the young woman was evacuated shortly after to the Provincial Hospital of Huesca. The funeral for the mountaineer will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, in the parish of Santesteban, at 7:00 p.m.
