The Russo-Georgian War began on August 7, 2008 with the Battle of Tskhinval.
15 years ago, the Russian occupation forces invaded Georgia. The country has paid tribute to those who fell in the conflict that saw Russia defeat the Georgian army in five days and left 20 percent of Georgian territory occupied to this day.

Berdia Zazadze’s unit responded to the occupiers with artillery.
During one of the engagements, Zazadze’s unit was surrounded by the Russians. The soldier returned to the front alone to help one of his wounded comrades. For his bravery, he received one of Georgia’s highest military decorations, which he later presented to the family of a Georgian soldier who died fighting for Ukraine.
Since 2021, Berdia Zazadze no longer serves in the army. She lives in the Tskhinval region, in a village near the Russian-occupied territory with his wife and children.
