Scams that are carried out from mobile phones are the order of the day. Now, the National Police has been forced to alert the public to a new scam in which it is relatively easy to fall for if you are not attentive. It all starts with a call to the victim’s mobile from, supposedly, her bank.
The new phone scam
Therefore, It is not that the call comes from an unknown number, which could raise the suspicions of the victim. When picking up, the person hears something like “I’m calling from your bank. For security reasons, do not speak your password. Type it on the keyboard.”
The fact of not having to say the password but simply typing it on the keyboard offers an “extra” security, so the person marks it. It is a trap! Thus, criminals get hold of it. But how is it possible just by typing the number? Well, it’s because of the sound, since each number has a characteristic one.
«You have just been scammed with a new type of spoofing. As? One: they call you from your bank and you check that the number actually matches, but it doesn’t. It’s not them. They have impersonated it so that you do not detect it. “Two. They ask you to enter the password to access your online banking. Three: if you do, they will capture the keystrokes on your terminal and they will take your keys, “explains the National Police.
The truth is that it is a scam that is easy to fall for two reasons. First of all, criminals impersonate the bank’s phone number, so when checking it matches. And, secondly, contrary to what has been customary, you don’t have to say the password, but type it. Therefore, anyone could think that it is indeed the bank that he is calling.
Beware of the reverse Bizum scam!
On the other hand, The National Police warns of the reverse Bizum scam, which occurs on platforms such as Milanuncios or Wallapop. What happens is that the supposed buyer, who is actually a scammer, instead of sending the money to the seller, what he sends is a request for money. If the user does not notice and accept the transaction, he is authorizing the payment instead of receiving it.
