The beta of Google Play Games for PC is now also available in Germany. The program allows you to play some mobile games originally developed for the Android platform on Windows PC.
Google Play Games for PC is still officially in a test phase. The beta version of the program can now be downloaded in Europe by visiting the official website. The program was originally announced in December 2021 and then tested in Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan, among others. The program has been available in the USA and Canada since last November.
The minimum requirements are low: Windows 10 or Windows 11 should be installed, writes Google. Otherwise, the Android games are content with a moderate 8 GB of RAM and quad-core CPUs. “Some games require an Intel CPU,” Google writes on its website, without going into detail about this point.
With mouse and keyboard
Google Play Games runs Android games in an emulator. The titles originally released for Android are accessed via the “Play Games” application, which runs as a native program on Windows computers. Selected games that have been adapted by the developers for the computer can be played via the program – all Android games are therefore not available.
According to a Google support entry, developers should pay particular attention to the controls when porting for the PC: According to this, developers should ensure that input methods originally developed for touchscreens are implemented correctly for the mouse and keyboard. Google requires mouse and keyboard support for the PC release.
According to Google, developers must also display their game at 60 Hertz and support resolutions and aspect ratios that are common on the PC. Developers still need to ensure that game progress is synchronized between the PC and Android versions of their game so that users can continue playing seamlessly after switching devices. Android games available on the calculator include Mobile Legends, Rise of Empires, Coin Master, and Dungeon Knight. Other titles such as “Garena Free Fire” and “MapleStory M” will soon be added.
