Sony shows “Spider-Man 2”, “Metal Gear Solid 3” and “Alan Wake 2″
Sony not only unexpectedly presented a home streaming handheld for the PS5 during the Playstation Showcase on Wednesday evening. Playstation boss Jim Ryan also presented respectable game scenes from Insomniac’s “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” for the Playstation 5. Apart from that, there were few exclusive titles to see. Highlights like the remake of “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater” or “Alan Wake 2” are also available for the PC and Xbox consoles. Some older brands loved by fans are also returning, such as “Marathon”, “Helldivers 2” or “Dragon’s Dogma 2”.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
One of the most exciting upcoming PS5 exclusives revolves around two Spider-Men. Adapted from the PS5 spin-off Miles Morales, the duo work together to protect New York from villains like Venom, Kraven, the Hunter and the Lizard in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, albeit without co-op support. Extensive game scenes have already shown how detailed and technically clean the fast fights are – during sneak tours with rope bridges or jet ski chases. Insomniac Games is planning a PS5 release in the fall. Part 1 was also successful on PC. A remastered version grossed $52 million there.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
After years of rumours, Konami finally officially presented the remake of its classic PS2 stealth game “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater”, albeit only in the form of a short teaser. Graphics and sound in the jungle are being polished, and Konami wants to remain “true to the original” in terms of plot and gameplay. This also includes the voice actors of the model. In addition to the PS5, the remake should also appear for Steam and Xbox Series X/S. There is no date yet. The “Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1”, which emulates parts 1 to 3 practically in their original state, is also planned for autumn.
Marathon
Halo creator Bungie has been part of Sony since 2022 and announced a new game after around ten years of focus on the “Destiny” brand. The colorful extraction shooter “Marathon” takes place in the same universe as Bungie’s Macintosh oldies of the same name. However, the game will not be a direct sequel. There is no single player campaign. Instead, Crews battle their way through a world filled with events and loot with a PvP focus. “Marathon” is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, including crossplay and cross-system saves.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Ubisoft showed new scenes from ancient Baghdad in the 9th century and announced a date for “Assassin’s Creed Mirage”, which will be released on October 12, 2023. In the Alamut Fortress, street thief Basim develops into a master assassin under the guidance of his teacher Roshan. The game will be released for PS4 and PS5, Xbox One and Series X/S and PC (Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store).
Alan Wake 2
Remedy’s long-awaited action-adventure Alan Wake 2 has also been rescheduled for October 17, 2023. Both protagonists deal with a murder in sleepy Bright Falls. FBI agent Saga Anderson sets out to enlighten him, while maniacal writer Alan Wake tries to rewrite his own reality. The focus is on slow melee combat with light against twisted shadow creatures, as the short trailer proved. Supported platforms are PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC (Epic Games Store).
Helldivers 2
With “Helldivers 2”, Arrowhead Game Studios brings back a hard-hitting and self-deprecating co-op classic. In the planetary fight against the bugs, strategic cooperation may again become a duty, but this time not from the narrow top-down perspective. The trailer shows powerful action from the third-person perspective, lots of humor and references to the “Starship Troopers”. A release for PS5 and PC is expected later this year.
Dragon’s Dogma 2
Capcom’s fantasy role-playing game “Dragon’s Dogma” also has a sworn fan base. The newly announced part 2 provides the player with up to three mystical companions. However, the scenes from the RE Engine could not quite keep up with the other titles shown in the first scenes. “Dragon’s Dogma 2” will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC at an unknown date.
The Talos Principle 2
“Serious Sam” creator Croteam created an unexpectedly philosophical adventure full of light puzzles with “The Talos Principle”. Overarching “metapuzzles”, multiple endings and a sophisticated narrative could also make the sequel a puzzle highlight. After the extinction of mankind, the story takes place in a gigantic robot city. “The Talos Principle 2” is scheduled for release in 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X and PC.
Phantom Blade 0
“Phantom Blade 0” revolves around lightning-fast blade action in a semi-open game world. The Chinese developer S-Game made this unmistakably clear in the announcement. The hunted elite assassin Soul fights enemies and monsters using blades, wall runs and all sorts of character customization. The title, created with Unreal Engine 5, is in the works for PS5 and PC (Epic Games Store).
Games for Playstation VR 2
There’s good news for Capcom fans with a Playstation VR 2. The planned VR mode for the latest remake of “Resident Evil 4” makes the entire campaign playable in virtual reality. Instead of an appointment, the first game scenes of the fights with motion control were presented. Other PSVR 2 announcements include hit VR hit Beat Saber, available now, and zombie shooter Arizona Sunshine 2, coming to PC VR in 2023.
