Román, that brave, smiling and always young Valencian bullfighter, has walked an ear of law after seriously risking his life before a meek, cast, difficult and ugly specimen of Montalvo who came out in fifth place.
The truth is that there was no hope in sight after a broken third of rods in which the animal repeatedly nodded, and its scarce collaboration in banderillas; but after a brief fidgeting below, Román settled his shoes, quoted long and the bull slipped into him in a bad way. He then took the left foot and endured an annoying and dangerous pitch that did not prevent natural entities from emerging. He continued on that side and the following round was charged with emotion because the bullfighter’s claw and honor stood out in the face of the obvious difficulties of a bull that released its face and put its pitons on his neck. There he continued, with a heroic attitude, looking for the cleanliness and length of the crutches, despite the manifest refusal of the complicated opponent.
More information
There was not what is called a warm and deep task, because it was impossible; There was, yes, a full-fledged fight, epic and full of emotion, which the bullfighter culminated with some accelerated manoletinas before charging a blow with withering effect.
There was also a sparkling illusion before his first bull, a beautiful dotted chestnut bull that he repeated humiliated from his exit to the ring. He offered Román to the audience and, for a moment, it was glimpsed that something big would happen. He went to the media, quoted from a long time ago, the animal accepted the challenge and attacked by right, although it was already evident that his strength was not what was desired. He returned to show off the long bull again, but that trot was the last. Tired, exhausted, lifeless… Román squeezed the nobility of the kind opponent, but the task lacked the emotion that was left over in the other.
Emotional was also the work of Francisco José Espada before his first; but he was for his courageous passes exchanged from behind (the first of them at the start of the task for statuary) and not for the content of his bullfighting before an animal that charged with its face at half height. It was intermittent and irregular work that did not take flight, but it did reach the lines. Some tight bernadinas ended up putting everyone in agreement, except the president, who denied him the ear after killing with a good thrust, despite the fact that there was a majority of applicants. The man in the box earned a loud row, but Espada was left without the trophy. He tried with all his soul against the sixth, another noble bull from Algarra. He toasted the public, dropped to his knees and drew a couple of notable right hands, a slow and long natural and a tempered chest pass that captivated the square. The task did not later have flashes to remember beyond the brave dedication of the bullfighter, and when he had everything in his favor he suffered a serious somersault from which he came out battered. He killed badly and the prize was gone.
And the shortlist was closed by the Mexican El Payo, who has not left a good impression. To succeed, you have to take one more step than the one this bullfighter took, apparently very conformist before his first noblewoman, with a short trip, who offered him a certain possibility that he would listen to something more than silence after the drag. El Payo was correct, an insufficient balance to capture the attention of the public; the room was very dingy and dull, and the Mexican bullfighter went unnoticed.
Algarra/El Payo, Román, Espada
four bulls of Luis Algarra, correct presentation, uneven play on shafts, soft, noble and classy in the final third; and two -fourth and fifth- of Montalvoboth of ugly shapes and tame, the first lackluster and the other embedded and difficult.
the payo: lunge drop (silence); puncture, half traversed -warning- and an outrage (silence).
