The CEO of Microsoft compares the recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) with groundbreaking technological achievements such as the iPhone. “With ChatGPT we switched from bicycles to steam engines,” said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Thursday evening (CEST) at the start of the MS Build 2023 developer conference in Seattle.
What is Microsoft planning for the future? Which topics are important this year?
AI race
Artificial intelligence – or AI for short – is currently the dominant topic for the technology industry. While start-ups have been driving development for years, it is primarily the big US giants who are integrating the now mature AIs into their products. In this way, AI becomes the playing field on which Microsoft, Meta, Google or Amazon carry out their fierce competition.
“There’s an epochal change in the air,” Nadella said. The numerous developers who create applications for Windows worldwide would have completely new possibilities with AI. Microsoft has announced over 50 innovations for the build, which will take place on site in Seattle and virtually until Thursday. They will almost all have something to do with AI. “AI changes the stack at every level,” Nadella said.
Co-pilot for everyone
Nadella highlighted some of the innovations at the opening: “We’re bringing Copilot to Windows,” said the CEO. “I think that’s how we turn every user into a Windows power user.” With Copilot Stack and Azure AI, developers should be able to integrate AI into their applications for Windows themselves, using all the resources that Microsoft has created in recent years. “We want everyone to be able to build a co-pilot for their application,” Nadella emphasized.
With Fabric, Microsoft is also introducing a new data analysis platform for business customers. Microsoft promises that the platform will bring together and analyze “all the data that a company needs”. Of course, AI is also used here.
