It has been a long time since there were such high expectations as before this year’s WWDC developer conference. Apple officially announced the program for the multi-day online event on Tuesday evening, which is scheduled to start with a keynote on Monday, June 5 at 7 p.m. German time. There is official talk of new technologies, tools and frameworks for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS being presented.
The main focus of industry observers, however, is on topics that Apple does not mention in the official announcement a week and a half before the conference. Rumors have been circulating for weeks that Apple could at least unveil the software for a mixed reality headset, if not the device itself. A possible trademark registration for xrOS has recently become known. You could also hear and read about a 15-inch model of the MacBook Air. Should Apple actually introduce a new device for augmented or virtual reality, it would be one of Apple’s biggest product innovations in years.
Start at Apple Park
Whether the speculation is true will be seen at the start, which will take place for selected developers and students as well as media representatives on site in Apple Park. It is very likely that Apple will again show a pre-produced film instead of a stage event. The keynote will be streamed live and in post via Apple’s website, the Apple Developer app, Apple TV and YouTube.
Apple provides a deeper insight into the new operating system versions and the developer tools in the “Platforms State of the Union”, which begins on Monday at 10:30 p.m. German time. It can be seen through the developer app and the developer website. The Apple Design Awards, with which Apple recognizes outstanding achievements by app developers, are scheduled for Tuesday, June 6, 3:30 a.m. German time.
175 video sessions for developers
175 video sessions are planned for the WWDC. The videos will be available in the developer app and on the developer website. Apple engineers and designers want to help developers with questions via Slack. The lynchpin for free participation is the developer app.
