Deutsche Telekom upgrades its mobile phone tariffs with additional data volume depending on the contract period: Anyone who has been a Telekom customer for longer gets more additional data volume. This “data bonus” applies to mobile phone contracts and prepaid tariffs, Telekom announced on Monday.
Existing customers of a Telekom contract get 500 MB of additional data volume per month for every year that the mobile phone contract is running. Anyone who has already had their contract for five years gets 2.5 GB of extra data volume per month. The upper limit is 10 GB of additional data volume, which would be reached after 20 years of contract loyalty. The offer is valid continuously: All Telekom customers will be promoted to the higher bonus levels in the coming years.
The offer is valid for customers of the MagentaMobil tariffs of the current tariff generation as well as associated Plus cards. The data bonus will be available for the first time in the MeinMagenta app at the beginning of July. Telekom’s wording suggests that customers must activate the additional data volume individually each month.
Restrictions on Prepaid Customers
Users of the Young tariffs for people aged 18 to 27 benefit twice over: they receive 1 GB of additional data volume per contract year. The offer for prepaid customers is somewhat limited. Telekom also grants you 500 MB per month per year of use. However, the maximum limit here is not a fixed value, but double the data volume actually included in the tariff.

Anyone who has booked MagentaMobil Prepaid S with a data volume of 500 MB will reach the upper limit of the data bonus after the first year of use. Telekom probably wants to prevent the cheapest prepaid tariffs from suddenly being able to use huge amounts of data at a low price.
Telekom’s data bonus offer is reminiscent of the competitor Telefónica’s O2 Grow: Since April, Telefónica has been granting customers of the O2 Mobile term tariffs additional monthly data volume after the first year of use. The additional data volume depends on the tariff booked: With O2 Mobile S and Mobile S Boost there is about one additional GB of data volume per year, with O2 Mobile M 5 GB.
