Driving report Energica Experia Bridle torque in the Dolomites: Zoom-Zoom 2.0
The small but fine e-manufacturer Energica is aiming for quantities and is presenting the Experia for the first time, a motorcycle for the no longer so small journey, whether alone or in pairs. She rode a MOTORCYCLE.

crossover. The northern Italian marketing people naturally have their problems with this vulgar term. Not to mention the travel enduro. “Green Tourer” is instead the preferred vocabulary. Nevertheless, the key data speak for a relatively pure crossover with a mini-shot travel enduro:
Moderate on the mountain
Still a moderate seat height (847 millimeters), still a moderate tourer look, still moderate suspension travel (each 150 millimeters) and still moderate 17-inch tires (Pirelli Scorpion Trail II). At first glance, the performance of the brand new electric motor (80 hp continuous power, 102 hp peak power) seems a bit too moderate, but the weight (260 kilograms) is no longer quite moderate and the price (a good 30,450 euros) is far from moderate.
Outside the box
But the laws are different in the world of electromobility, here is a brief classification: In any case, no full-fledged electric motorcycle seemed too weak to us, especially since the Experia can score here with a whopping 115 Newton meters of torque – as usual, immediately available in its entirety. 260 kilos are also at the top, but not at the most unusual edge of the segment (hello, Kawasaki Versys 1000). Especially since the Signore and Signori from Energica explain in detail how much better the kilos, which have not increased despite the slightly larger battery pack (22.5 kWh gross, 19.6 kWh effective) and the built-in tourer regalia (compared to the existing line-up) are distributed. Motor and battery, and thus a large part of the weight, are now placed significantly further down and to the rear in the interests of mass centralization, and there is also a significantly narrower frame.
No electricity price brake
And the price? Yes, well, e-mobility does not (yet) exist without a hefty surcharge, that should be well known by now. And if you see yourself as an e-sports pioneer and premium provider, even less so. On the other hand: a BMW S 1000 XR with the usual amount of clothing, for example, is not exactly a bargain either.
Finally driven
Daring comparison with the BMW? Somehow. The Stromer flies so confidently around the corners. On the one hand, this is due to the inimitably powerful and yet gently tappable electric boost. While the burners in the switchback-infested Dolomites like to sit in the basement with agitated gears, the Experia pushes forward with every power surge. There’s no time left for regulars turning numbers: that’s pressure on the premier class. Even if it doesn’t seem like it, it’s finite compared to the downright obscenely strong energy power plants of Ego and Eva, but it can hardly be exhausted when taking into account the Road Traffic Act, topography and the will to survive.
Watt? Your volt handling?
Spectacular, but not entirely unexpected for the Energica veteran. In complete contrast to the handling. Although nominally not lighter than the recently slimmed siblings, it feels like they have switched from heavyweight to middleweight. At least. In addition, thanks to the noticeably more harmonious weight distribution, the prominent top-heaviness of the rest of the Energica gang is missing. Result: Easier steering, no more wobbling at low angles and significantly less sweat on the forehead when turning. If things get too wild, the well-known Brembo cutlery from the upper shelves regulates confidently.
Dynamic comfort
The rough, attractive rear, which was often criticized in the past, has now become significantly more elegant thanks to a modern linkage for the shock absorber. Nevertheless, the basic setting of the hardware from ZF Sachs is more on the dynamic side, which does justice to a dynamic representative of the genre. Just like the usual feature set. High-resolution cockpit, seven driving modes (four fixed and three configurable), lean angle-sensitive driving electronics, connectivity, adjustable windshield, 112-liter pannier system and of course the obligatory heated grips: everything is on board. However, drivers taller than 1.80 meters would be happy about a slightly higher seat, which is also less sloping towards the front. According to Energica, it should be available in time for the market launch in autumn.
How much energy does the Energica have?
And the crucial question: how long does the juice last? A good 180 kilometers can at least be extrapolated based on the consumption values of our test lap, which is unfortunately very short but also very steep and fast. For comparison: A 2020 Eva Ribelle only managed a good 120 kilometers under similar circumstances with the only slightly smaller battery (21.5 kWh gross, 18.9 kWh effective). And a Zero SR/F, not entirely dissimilar to the Experia, only 110 kilometers. If you don’t happen to live in the Alps, don’t always choose the “Sport” driving mode and don’t just give full power, you should be able to cover the 200 kilometers quite easily. Which makes the factory specification of 208 kilometers in pure country road operation seem realistic. 256 kilometers in mixed operation and a whopping 420 in – admittedly rather impractical – city operation sound quite good.
Load faster
Once charged to 80 percent, it still takes 40 minutes, provided you charge direct current at a fast charging station with a “CCS” plug type, which is becoming more and more numerous thanks to the four-wheeled colleagues. Filling up takes a good hour and costs just under 20 euros, even in the top price segment of one euro per kilowatt hour, instead of the usual 17 liters of Super at currently just under 35 euros. Maybe not so unimportant when the purchase already devours almost 25,600 euros … without VAT. But no problem, bargain hunters do without the luggage system of the Launch Edition and “only” pay just under 23,700 euros. Without tax. Oh well. As already mentioned, e-mobility does not (yet) exist without a substantial surcharge.
opinion poll
If so, then only a powerful electric motorcycle.
I can imagine an electric scooter for commuting and city traffic.
A small, manoeuvrable electric moped is definitely fun.

Conclusion
With the dynamic Experia, Energica is pushing into the prestigious and high-volume segment somewhere between travel enduro and crossover. The handling has improved significantly compared to previous Energicas, and there is also the largest battery in the two-wheeler sector. The probable range also makes us confident, but it still has to be verified in detail. A successful, but self-confidently priced e-tourer, which has its toughest competitor in the Zero SR/F, which is similar in design and has a smaller battery, but also a lower price.
